In August 2007, the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) was formed by the merger of the University of Paisley and Bell College. It has 16,000 students and is Scotland\’s most prominent modern university, with Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton, and Paisley campuses. Times Higher Education has officially ranked UWS among the top 600 universities in the world (2022 World University Rankings) and among the top 150 universities under 50 years old (2022 Young University Rankings). UWS has also been named the 2022 Higher Education Institution of the Year (The Herald Higher Education Awards).
